HEALING MINDS

Your journey to mental wellness starts here.

About me

Dr Caroline Silcock DPsych MSc

I am an HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist and BPS chartered Counselling Psychologist

I provide psychological assessment and therapy to adults over the age of 18 years from my clinic in central Winchester. I am able to offer both in person and online sessions.

I have over 15 years experience working as a Counselling Psychologist, within the NHS, charities and private sectors, across a wide range of settings and presenting problems.

I am primarily a trauma therapist, trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy) (the gold standard treatment for trauma), and I work with single event PTSD to more complex, relational trauma (cPTSD). I also draw upon CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), ACT (Acceptance and committment therapy), CFT (compassion focused therapy) and mindfulness.

I use an integrative approach to therapy, taking into account each client's individual needs and preferences, as well as my own recommendations based on experience, knowledge and best practice clinical guidelines.

My background

After a number of different career experiences (including PR, the music industry and editing/journalism), I returned to study a Masters in Health Psychology, and began my career in psychology. I worked at the Tobacco Dependence and Treatment Centre (Barts and The London) and ran smoking cessation clinics across City & Hackney before begining my Clinical Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

During this training, I worked within primary care (City & Hackeny NHS), secondary care (CMHT at South London & The Maudsley NHS), chronic pain (The Wolfson Rehabilitation Centre, St George's NHS) and a charity providing support to women experiencing domestic violence (Woman's Trust, Stratford).

Upon graduating, I worked within the chronic pain department at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery in Queen's Square, London. I then moved to Women's Health (UCLH), working clinically within the perinatal department, and within the Institute for Women's Health (UCL) as a research psychologist investigating the psychosocial issues surrounding the introduction of non-invasive prenatal genetic testing.

I have also worked as a Research Manager at Eaves, a charity dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.

My specialisms lie within trauma and women's health, but I am happy to work with individuals regardless of gender and acorss a range of presenting problems.
